On March 2, 1836 Texas became free and independent republic. On this date in 2836, 59 delegates signed in the town of Washington-on-the-Brazos the declaration written primarily by George Childress that proclaimed Texas a republic independent from Mexico. Few things about Texas Independence:
- Texas remained independent for almost 10 years: March 2, 1826 to December 28, 1845
- Texas is the only state to enter the Union by a treaty
- March 2nd isn’t only Texas Independence Day, it is also Texas Flag Day and Sam Houston Day. Sam Houston was born on March 2nd, 1793.
- Parades, celebrations and memorials are organized everywhere in Texas on March 2, 2018.
